Wouldn\u2019t it be amazing to take in the sights and smells of those places that inspired some of your favourite works of fiction?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve picked a selection of literary destinations that have had profound effects on many an author, for you to follow in their footsteps.<\/p>\n<h3>Dublin<br \/><\/h3>\n<p>Any literary trip list worth its salt has to include the Irish Capital. The city that has homed and inspired luminaries such as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and Sally Rooney, owns a special place amongst word-lovers.<\/p>\n<p>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitdublin.com\/trinity-college\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Trinity College<\/ins><\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/moli.ie\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Museum of Literature<\/ins><\/a>, the James <a href=\"https:\/\/jamesjoyce.ie\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Joyce Centre<\/ins><\/a> or some of the many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatresonline.com\/theatres\/dublin-theatres\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>theatres<\/ins><\/a> and landmarks such as Ireland\u2019s oldest bookshop, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hodgesfiggis.ie\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Hodges Figgis<\/ins><\/a>, founded in 1748.<\/p>\n<h3>Paris<br \/><\/h3>\n<p>The city of love, life and literature. Its sentence-strewn streets have been trodden by more creative boots than you can universally long for. Playing host to the Lost Generation group of writers (Hemingway, Cummings, Fitzgerald et al)  in the 1920\u2019s, its literary influence is certainly far-reaching and considered one of the best in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The most obvious destination is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shakespeareandcompany.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Shakespeare and Co<\/ins><\/a>. Other must-see venues are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maisonsvictorhugo.paris.fr\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Le Maison de Victor Hugo<\/ins><\/a> and The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.parisinfo.com\/shopping-paris\/73937\/Les-bouquinistes-de-Paris\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Bouqinistes<\/ins><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We recommend reading Hemmingway\u2019s Midnight in Paris to really get a sense of the 1920s literary movement while you\u2019re there. <\/p>\n<p>Stratford-upon-Avon<\/p>\n<p>We would speak an infinite deal of nothing were we to ignore Stratford-upon-Avon. We all know Shakespeare hailed from this beautiful area of the country, and it is well worth a visit. Whether you watch a performance at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org.uk\/your-visit\/royal-shakespeare-theatre\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Royal Shakespeare Theatre<\/ins><\/a>, or visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shakespeare.org.uk\/visit\/anne-hathaways-cottage\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Anne Hathaway\u2019s Cottage<\/ins><\/a> &#8211; it\u2019s also worth taking the time to flutter over to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.butterflyfarm.co.uk\/attraction\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>butterfly farm<\/ins><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Oxford<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly known for more than just its comma, Oxford has fed some of the most magical fiction of our time. Middle Earth, Narnia and His Dark Materials have all come from Oxford-inspired minds &#8211; not to mention it being the birthplace of Alice in Wonderland. <\/p>\n<p>As a starting point, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Bodleian Library<\/ins><\/a>, take in the artefacts at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashmolean.org\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Ashmolean Museum <\/ins><\/a>and find some peace in the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.botanic-garden.ox.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins> Botanic Gardens<\/ins><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align:left;\">Inspirational holiday destinations from fiction <br \/><\/h2>\n<p>The best books are those that evoke strong feelings, depict detailed landscapes and allow your imagination to get lost in the description. Whether it\u2019s a fondly remembered book from your childhood, a holiday favourite or a piece that transported you to the hazy uplands of a foreign land, we\u2019ve got some ideas to start your literary wanderlust.<\/p>\n<h3>The secret Garden (English Countryside<br \/><\/h3>\n<p>The English countryside is the setting for many childhood books &#8211; The Magic FarAway Tree, The Secret Garden and the Beatrix Potter series all paint a delightful picture of verdant fields, mysterious woods and hidden treasures. If you\u2019ve never read them, then you\u2019re in for a treat &#8211; and if you have, it\u2019s worth revisiting them all.<\/p>\n<p>Exploring the English Countryside is always high on travel itineraries. Although the house in the Secret Garden is fictional, it was set in North Yorkshire. Make sure to visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northyorkmoors.org.uk\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>North York Moors<\/ins><\/a> where you will experience a range of breathtaking views and varied activities.<\/p>\n<h3>Living in a Foreign Language (Tuscanny)<br \/><\/h3>\n<p>While Tuscany is a popular Italian destination, this book may be less well known. Centred around an American couple who, while vacationing in Tuscany, fall in love with a small cottage and decide to buy it. A delightful travelogue about the couple\u2019s journey to ingratiate themselves in the culture.<\/p>\n<p>Tuscany has a wealth of beautiful locations to visit. The book is set in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripsavvy.com\/spoleto-travel-guide-1547984\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Spoleto Valley<\/ins><\/a>, and you could also check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/iheartitaly.co\/saturnia-hot-springs-italy\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Saturnia Hot Springs<\/ins><\/a>, as well as the usual city suspects of Florence et al.<\/p>\n<h3>The Sea (County Wexford)<br \/><\/h3>\n<p>While the cities of Ireland have many stories contained behind their doors, a popular country destination is that of County Wexford. John Baneville\u2019s \u2018The Sea\u2019, depicts an art-historian returning to his favourite summer holiday destination to navigate his way through sorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Colm Toibin\u2019s Brooklyn also has the idyllic beaches and dappled woodlands as its backdrop as its protagonist battles the charms of her homeland with the vibrancy of New York.<\/p>\n<p>While you\u2019re there, take in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitwexford.ie\/directory-category\/heritage-and-culture\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>heritage walking tour<\/ins><\/a>, check out one of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebeachguide.co.uk\/republic-of-ireland\/county-wexford\/top-10-beaches\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins> seven beaches<\/ins><\/a> and visit the famous sibling of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitwexford.ie\/directory\/tintern-abbey\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><ins>Tintern Abbey<\/ins><\/a> (Tintern de Voto).<\/p>\n<h3>Lose yourself in a literary holiday<br \/><\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s incredibly easy to get lost in a good book. Many of your favourite pieces of fiction are based on or inspired by the vivacious and varied world around it.
