July Freebird of the Month: Joya

Every month we like to talk to members of the Club and hear a bit from them on their experiences of travelling, meeting up and occasionally hosting. As Freebird Club gathers pace and new members continue to come on board we think it’s important to shine a light on some of the leading members and what they’ve been getting up to.

If you’d like to feature or know someone who deserves to get a shout out then by all means send us an email to hello@thefreebirdclub.com.

And if you’d like to join Freebird Club and start mingling with like minded travellers and hosters then you can sign up here.

Introducing: Joya

Joya is a Dutch woman living in Sardegna (Sardinia). Her house is situated on a hill by the sea, 10 minutes away from the beautiful coloured town of Bosa. She loves meeting new people, always wanting to know how they live their life, and what their passions and dreams are. She’s travelled on her own to the US, India, Thailand, Bali. And is excited to start hosting people.

Joya loves swimming, hiking, cooking, reading, crochet, painting, and wine tasting ( she used to be a wine teacher). And apart from that is her love of exploring big questions like “what we are” as people and “what this life is.”

She’s been an active member of the community in our Facebook group since joining recently, getting involved in discussion and looking to host members in her home in Sardinia. She’s off to Ireland soon if you’d like to drop her a line through our onsite chat.

Here’s Joya in her own words:

1. What do you like about meeting new people?

We are all together on this little ball called earth. We all have our hopes and dreams and a backpack full of “luggage”. I am always interested in what is moving people through life. So all kinds of meetings, whether it is when I travel or just in the supermarket or a cafe. I like little conversations or longer ones during a nice meal. People can give you new ideas, inspiration, or sometimes you can help them with your point of view, and ideas etc.

2. What is your best travel tip?

I really don’t have the best travel trip. I love all kinds of trips, some days in a new city, or driving through beautiful Norway in summer, same for Iceland. Or India with all its colours and such a different way of life.

3. What do you like most about hosting people?

Hosting people is nice because I can help them a bit in finding their way around the area and have some nice talks about life in all its flavours. Maybe cook a meal together.

4. Where would you like to go and why?

I would like to go next to Ireland. Never been and don’t know why actually. (When I was younger I would not choose it because of the weather). I have always heard it’s a beautiful country, interesting landscapes and (also important) very nice people!

5. How did you find out about Freebird Club?
