International Women’s Month: Member Spotlight – Rosine Davies

Written by : Rachel Reisman

During this International Women’s Month, we had the pleasure of chatting with Rosine Davies, one of our female members with a deep passion for travel. Explore Rosine’s inspiring journey and perspectives on travel in our conversation below as we celebrate International Women’s Month.

Can you share a bit about your background and what inspired you to become a part of the Freebird Club Community?

I am a retired high school teacher and university professor.  I taught French and Spanish for 34 years in Essex and Morris Counties, New Jersey.  Once I retired, I became an active member of Couchsurfing. I love to travel, so I have joined several sites associated with traveling.  Actually, it was a member of the Ex50s on Facebook who talked about your site, so I joined.

What aspects of traveling do you find most enjoyable or fulfilling?

Being with locals and taking part in their daily activities are my favorite part of traveling.  Of course, I always dedicate a few days to the usual tourist trap.

Could you recount your most memorable travel experience?

After I hosted a young Couchsurfing couple, 2 years later, they invited me to their wedding in Limay, France.  Last year, they invited me to the baptism of their 1st. child.  I attended both events.  Now, I certainly feel that I  am part of their family and vice versa.  I have made some lasting relationships with many that I hosted through Couchsurfing and Couchers.  Some have returned to my humble condo on many occasions.  Also, I have visited them in their homeland.

If you could choose any fictional character as your ideal travel companion, who would it be and why?

He is not a fictional character but an expert in travel who has a YouTube program on traveling.  His name is Ace.  When I grow up, I  want to be just like Ace.

What destination is at the top of your travel wishlist, and what draws you to it?

I would love to focus on the African continent because I have only visited 2 countries there.  At the moment, I am trying to complete Central and South America.

Can you share a unique or unexpected experience from one of your past travels that left a lasting impression on you?

The wedding and the baptism in Limay, France.

What Key advice would you offer to individuals who are eager to embark on their travel adventures but might be unsure where to start?

Start close by to your home and immerse yourself in the culture. Don’t be afraid to take the plunge.
