The Lake District – Beatrix Potter

Playing host not only to one, but two famous Potters, the UK boasts spectacular walking locations, from the verdant fells of the Lake District to coastal landscapes in Jersey and the craggy yet captivating Scottish countryside.

Set in the stunning Lake District, the film stars Academy Award Winner Renée Zellweger who forgoes Bridget Jones’ famous big knickers to star in the role of Beatrix Potter, in Miss Potter. This biographical drama follows the life of the beloved children’s author and illustrator as she navigates personal and professional obstacles to bring her now-famous stories to life. Filmed amid the very landscapes Potter lived and worked, walking enthusiasts may recognise various locations around Loughrigg and Grasmere, Derwentwater, and Yew Tree Farm in Coniston.

To experience the landscapes that inspired Miss Potter’s writing, Ramble’s Hassness Country House guided walking itineraries combine comfortable accommodation with captivating walks, covering a compact area of mountainsides, summits and ridges.

Italy – The White Lotus 2 & Inspector Montalbano

Besides the dreamy hotels, it’s the idyllic scenery that has made The White Lotus anthology series so irresistible. Season 2 of the hit series is set in the scenic town of Taormina on Sicily’s eastern coast, complemented by the sapphire-blue waters of the Ionian Coast, gently lapping in the background. Destinations including Palermo, Cefalù and Noto also feature heavily – luring viewers in with every scene. Let’s try and avoid the twisted secrets of the guests, hotel staff and resort’s locale, though…

Similarly, Inspector Montalbano was also filmed across Sicily’s towns, including Sampieri, Scicli, Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Comiso. Want to soak up a little La Dolce Vita for yourself? The Montalbano’s Sicily walking holiday is ready to sweep you off your feet (figuratively, of course), highlighting the best of this south eastern region.
